At Nezer Mandate Healthcare Foundation, our mission has always been clear: to make high-quality surgical care accessible, efficient, and affordable for all. This year, in collaboration with GEANCO Foundation, an organization committed to serving underserved communities in Nigeria, we took a bold step forward. Together, we brought life-changing surgeries to those who had long been without access to essential healthcare. This partnership was not just a milestone for the patients we served but also a defining moment for both organizations.
The partnership between Nezer Mandate Healthcare Foundation and GEANCO Foundation was a meeting of missions. While we brought our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), equipped with advanced technology and dedicated medical teams, GEANCO Foundation’s commitment to developing the capacity of local surgeons and providing quality healthcare to the underserved ensured that this mission would go beyond temporary relief to deliver sustainable change.
For the first time, our Ambulatory Surgery Center was one of the locations where the surgeries were conducted. Designed to perform procedures that safely discharge patients within 24 hours, our facility provided an ideal setting for GEANCO’s vision of efficient and compassionate care. This collaboration allowed us to address logistical barriers, increase patient reach, and provide a dignified environment for healing. By the end of the mission, over 70 surgeries were successfully performed, covering a range of procedures including herniorrhaphy, thyroidectomy, hydrocelectomy, excision biopsy, vaginal hysterectomy, myomectomy, and cystectomy.
Behind the success of this mission was meticulous planning and tireless effort. Months of preparation went into ensuring that every detail was covered—from sourcing surgical supplies to training and coordinating an efficient team. Volunteers worked around the clock, their unwavering dedication shining through every step of the journey.
The surgery days were a hive of activity. Patients and their families arrived with a mix of anxiety and hope. Surgeons, nurses, and support staff moved with precision and care, transforming fear into reassurance. The air was filled with gratitude as patients expressed their amazement at the quality of care they received. For many, it was their first encounter with healthcare that truly prioritized their dignity and well-being.
One elderly farmer, plagued by a hernia that left him unable to work, expressed immense gratitude after his procedure. “This surgery has given me my life back,” he said, tears streaming down his face. A young mother, whose fibroid condition had worsened over the years, underwent a successful myomectomy. “I’ve never experienced such care,” she shared, as she prepared to return home. A young lady in her 20’s, initially hesitant to undergo a thyroidectomy, left the center with newfound confidence and a smile that spoke volumes about her relief and gratitude. These stories and more reinforces our commitment to provide quality patient-centered care at lower costs.
